Four newly elected and re-elected members were sworn into office as members of the ElectriCities Board of Directors during the first meeting of the year on January 23. During that meeting, the Board also elected 2009 officers.
The 14-member Board of Directors advises and directs the activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA), and ElectriCities, a municipal electric system trade association.
The following members were sworn in on January 23:
NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners elected Donald D. Mitchell of Monroe. Mitchell is the Director of Energy Services for the City of Monroe and has 30 years of utility industry experience.
NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners elected John T. Walser, Jr. of Lexington. Walser is the Mayor of Lexington and has served on the Lexington City Council since 1991.
NCEMPA Board of Commissioners elected Richard Hicks of Farmville. Hicks is the Town Manager of Farmville, a position he has held since 1989. Hicks has more than 30 years of experience in local government.
NCEMPA Board of Commissioners re-elected C. Bruce Rose of Wilson to a second term. Rose has served as the Mayor of Wilson since 1992.
The board members were elected after an extensive nomination process. All will serve a three-year term.
During the Board’s January meeting, the 2009 officers were elected, including Strib Boynton of High Point, Chairman; Bruce Rose of Wilson, Vice Chairman; and Jennie Stultz of Gastonia, Secretary.
The ElectriCities Board of Directors consists of six members representing NCMPA1, six members representing NCEMPA and two members representing non-power agency cities. Other board members include: Jerry E. Cox, Huntersville; John P. Craft, La Grange; Ronald D. Elks, Greenville Utilities; Wilson A. Lacy, Fayetteville PWC; Samuel W. Noble, Jr., Tarboro; William A. Seamone, Concord; Linda K. Story, Granite Falls; and Frederick E. Turnage, Rocky Mount.
