The town also has a financial stake in five regional power plants, including the coal-fire plant in Roxboro. The debt that the Town of Tarboro has in its investment makes up 38 percent of town residents’ utility bill, Rhodes said.
When asked how much it would cost to produce another nuclear power plant in the region, Rhodes said it would cost approximately $7 billion.
He added that Progress Energy "would like to" build two new nuclear power plants by 2020.
