Elizabeth City gets refund check from Electricities

Monthly electric bill error in city’s favor

From staff reports

Elizabeth City will be getting a credit on its next bill from its wholesale supplier of electricity because of an error in the November billing.

City Manager Rich Olson reported Friday that Ricky Albertson, load management technician for the city, had discovered an error in the November power bill from ElectriCities.

“After much discussion and emailing data back and forth to ElectriCities staff, it was agreed that the bill was in error,” Olson wrote in his weekly “FYI” report. “The error occurred because of the manner in which load data was handled after the day light savings time change.”

The city was overcharged roughly $85,000. ElectriCities currently is calculating the exact amount of the city’s credit.

Olson said he appreciated Albertson’s “diligence in recognizing this error.”
