Mayor to ElectriCities: Sue us

Mayor Roger McLean had tough talk for the city’s wholesale electric supplier Monday night — going so far as to suggest that the city buy power from another utility and “let ElectriCities sue us.”

During a discussion of high utility bills at council’s regular meeting, McLean sought to place the blame for high bills squarely on the shoulders of ElectriCities, the administrative arm of the N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency.

McLean said he doesn’t consider himself “radical” but has reached a point where’s he ready to say the city should disconnect from ElectriCities, connect to Richmond, Va.-based Dominion Power and “let ElectriCities sue us.”
