Medicaid & DHHS- What you need to know as seen on DCN TV & WNCR—Abuse of Power: It starts at the Top!

Recently, on Connections with George Fisher-we talked extensively about Medicaid case managers as it relates to home care in eastern North Carolina.  On tonight’s episode, we talked specifically about  Lanier Cansler, Sec., DHHS of NC.  Below are the links, mostly from the N&O, about the ethics complaints, Cansler’s former lobbying company, and his attachment to his former clients with regard to non-bid DHHS contracts.

Folks, this is (in my opinion) wrong! On many different levels, Cansler should have never been appointed DHHS Secretary.  His former clients should have never been awarded no-bid contracts, and it’s certainly wrong for (his) office and the Office of the Governor to play politics with PCS (Patient Care Services) as it relates to small individual home health care units scattered throughout eastern North Carolina.

A Call To Action: Certainly my TV show gets buzz within the community and on the internet. I appreciate the comments and the words of encouragement.  I will plug away at this situation as it relates to what I consider North Carolina’s most valuable resource: our aged community. They deserve better!

But, I need some help. No, I’m not asking for money (I would never do that). I’m asking you to call or email me if you have information, or know someone (an elder) who has fallen though the cracks and suffered because of case management reporting, PCS hour cuts, or DSS inaction.  The only way to make it better for our seniors, those poor individuals living on fixed incomes, small families, and limited resources, is to gather these stories (these personal tragedies) and to let our North Carolina elected body realize what it’s really like to live in eastern NC when you are literally at the mercy of others.

You can find my info on my contact page, but I’ll give it here. George Fisher: C: 252.822.3311 or email georgefisher100@gmail.com

The lady that called tonight on the show really made me think what my priorities are…rather what they should be. A little old lady in eastern NC shouldn’t NOT have to eat sardines because that’s the only thing she’s got in the house.

And, also, please join me each week night from 7-8pm as we discuss this topic.

Although Richard Morgan did not win his bid for Senate I think his statement about Cansler is perfectly accurate. Some people would complain that the animosity between these two go back years. But, it’s been my experience that when politicians don’t like each other, they tend to tell the truth about one another.
