Wilson, NC—Before the doors opened, Woodard supporters had already sold over 500 tickets for BBQ chicken plates. By mid-afternoon, volunteers were scrambling to cook more chicken  as cars lined the drive-thu and whole families gathered inside Woodard’s campaign headquarters on Ward Blvd. (301 Hwy). Some reports total the ticket sales and walk-in at close to one thousand.

Supporters were sometimes heard shouting “Calvin’s the right man for the job” as Woodard posed for photos, both from media and local citizens.

Woodard said, “in the end, it’s not about me.  It’s about giving the county back to the people.”

On May 4th, Calvin Woodard, an SBI investigator, defeated long time Wilson County Sheriff Wayne Gay in a landslide, taking a great majority of the Wilson County precincts.  Since then, Gay’s second in command, John Farmer has entered the race, gaining the signatures needed to add his name to the November ballot as an unaffiliated candidate.

Woodard says he welcomes Farmer into the race.  “I’ve always ran a clean and aboveboard campaign and that’s not going to change.  I look forward to talking to Farmer about the real issues facing Wilson County and I’m looking forward to November.”
