Michele Bachmann for President Backlash: Stop Attacking Evangelicals! – The Daily Beast

Michele Bachmann for President Backlash: Stop Attacking Evangelicals! – The Daily Beast.

In some ways, I can understand how some evangelicals can feel abused or mistreated.  Some may actually feel that their words are taken out of context and misrepresented by (what they consider) a left of center biased media.  But, on the whole, I can’t get past a few things:

–When I was growing up, I was taught (by my parents) that religious views were something personal.  I understood that each person has a different way of expressing their personal religious views, but that no one particular view was necessarily the right view.  So, religion wasn’t something I toted around or wore on my sleeve. (kind of like a “your milage may vary, thing)

–I learned (through time and experience) that when someone tries to get you sway your opinion on religion, it’s usually for their own self interest.  Even if it’s just to get a warm and fuzzy feeling.

–And, finally, from the 1980s, I saw that religion and politics isn’t a good mix.  Why? Because, anyone who bases their political ideals  on emotion (as in religion or evangelical ) will usually err, absent common sense and rational thought.  When all is said and done, anyone’s personal religious ideas are opinion and not fact.  And, I think just because you have a “feeling” that God wants you to do a certain thing, or vote a certain way–is just that: a feeling.  It’s not fact.
