Yes, corporations have a moral and ethical (now a legal) responsibility to provide health insurance to their employees. There are 60 some corporations that have announced firings and reduced hours. Some have already fired employees citing Obama’s reelection and the Affordable Healthcare Act. I call Bullshit! Corporations have a legal and ethical responsibility to make money and increase shareholder value, true. But, they also have a responsibility to do no harm: harm to customers, the environmental and yes, employees. Would you be up in arms to learn XYZ Corp was dumping radioactive soup in your local river? Sure you would. Why? Because it’s against the law…No! Why is it against the law? Because they have the responsibility to do no harm. Even when it costs money. The employees of these corporations have a right not to have to work in substandard environments. Asbestos on the walls, intolerable work hours, harassing conditions, etc. And corporations have the moral and ethical responsibility not to low-ball employees with low benefit packages and wages just to make more of a profit share. It doesn’t-I repeat-it doesn’t cost a company more to keep an employee healthy. So let’s end the brainwashed bullshit excuses used by so many Tea baggers. Employees will not lose their jobs because the company can’t afford to keep them, financially. Employees lose their jobs because of all those things associated with mismanagement.
