Arizona Senator John McCain backed away yesterday from comments he has previously made about UN Ambassador Susan Rice. CNN was told yesterday that the intelligence community was responsible for the changes made to Rice’s talking points.
And, during closed door testimony, the congressional investigative committee learned that the Obama administration made very minimal changes to Rice’s points.
McCain had originally criticized the Administration and Rice for what he called a cover-up. He claimed that the American public was lied to by Rice and Team Obama over the nature of the Benghazi attacks.
McCain originally said that Rice wasn’t qualified to be Secretary of State and that he would do everything in his power to block her nomination. He claimed Rice was either complacent in a cover-up or that she should have vetted her points well enough to know better.
Yesterday’s statement by McCain is tantamount to an apology to Rice and the Obama administration.
