Greenville—NC In a radio interview this morning in eastern North Carolina, GOP US Senate hopeful, Thom Tillis bashed Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan without giving any specifics to his claims. Tillis said Hagan has done nothing to help the military in North Carolina and said she doesn’t consider the needs of North Carolina farmers.
Tillis went on to pin Hagan to the Obama Administration by saying she supported what he calls the most disastrous economic policy to hit America in history: the Affordable Care Act. Again, Tillis doesn’t site any specifics; only sputtering talking point after talking point.
Tillis later said that he recently took a trip to Washington, D.C. where he learned that the Senate GOP has formulated a plan to combat Obamacare that will be made public soon. However, Tillis admitted that he hasn’t read the plan, doesn’t know any particulars and basically has no idea what he’s talking about. Tillis said the high cost of Obamacare means that Americans could lose their businesses and their homes trying to come up with enough money to pay health insurance.
Tillis, the once favored Teapublican in North Carolina, helped usher in a wave of GOP led legislation to stop Medicaid expansion, trim early voting in North Carolina, do away with the straight party ticket and enact the most rigorous voter ID laws in the country. On abortion—Tillis, as of late, tweeted his opinion of the recent Court decision striking part of the latest NC bill to restrict a woman’s right to
choose. The Court ruled that a physician could not be forced to tell a pregnant woman seeking an abortion that the fetus is a “viable” life. Tillis said the ruling should be appealed because it saved lives.
However, the North Carolina Tea Party seems to have lost it’s zeal for the Republican NC House leader. Another, more conservative Teamonger has challenged Tillis in the GOP primary for United State Senate: an obstetrician and Pro-lifer from New Bern.
At some point, especially if he is successful in the Republican primary, Tillis will have to stop the demagogy and talking points. Unlike the state House, Tillis will be forced to back up his conclusions with solid fact.
