Frankly, I’m a little sick and tired of people pumping out a military record and running for political office acting like that alone qualifies them to represent a district. It doesn’t.
I heard back in January that Tata was looking at a congressional seat – but I had no idea he would be stupid enough to think he could take out Walter Jones.
It’s true that you don’t have to live in a district to run for congress – but it sure as hell helps – assuming you care enough about the people you claim to want to represent.
Tata lives in Cary, by the way. He doesn’t live in the 3rd CD. Tata lives in the 2nd CD – currently held by Renee Ellmers.
The fact that he would go after Jones and not Ellmers is a little unsettling. He strikes me as an opportunist. I’ve always held the belief you run where you live.
Tata is serious about running for congress. Someone has already bought up the domains TonyTataforcongress.com and TataforCongress.com – interestingly, all of the domains were bought in the past few days.
Or, could it possibly be that someone else is running against Ellmers. I’ve heard the name Jim Womack thrown out a few times. Womack is chair of the NC Mining and Energy Commission. He’s another nut! You can read Billy Ball’s article in the Indy. Billy used to write for the Sanford Herald and knows Womack and that area quite well.
Interestingly, Womack’s brother is a congressman from Arkansas: Steve Womack.
Taylor Griffin came as close to taking out Walter Jones as anyone in recent history. Jones only won by 2500 votes in the Republican primary in 2014. I’d support Taylor over Jones any day of the week. Taylor grew up in eastern North Carolina.
But, Tata – hell no. He’s a carpetbagger opportunist and the 750,000 people in eastern North Carolina’s 3rd CD deserve better than that.
While I’m at it: let me dispel the notion that Griffin is a “Washington elite” who only came back home to take on Walter Jones. Griffin worked for the Bush administration – and he saw, first hand, the fractured relationships Jones has in Congress and he saw that Jones was ineffective in helping NC03.
