A busy day at the Rowan County Board of Elections as the last day of candidate filing comes to a close.
Veleria Levy, of Kannapolis, filed her intention to run for a seat on Rowan County’s Board of County Commissioners.
Two at-large positions are up for grab this election cycle. Currently both seats are held by Republicans.
Veleria was graduated from NC A&T State Universality with a dual degree in Political Science and Marketing. She is the Founder of Purses and Politics – a business formed to bring together women, who are at the top of their game, and are looking to spread the word about politics by making informed and educated decisions.

For years, Levy has been an advocate, volunteering her time as a Board Member at her son’s Catholic School and she is a PTA Executive Board

Member.

*The Complexity*
Although Levy is a North Carolina Democrat and an elected officer in the party – she is by no means a ‘rank and file’ Democrat. Levy believes in the ideals of democracy, fairness and freedom. She has the reputation of pushing back against the NCDP when she feels the party could be doing more to support the poor and working class in North Carolina.
Levy has a reputation of finding common ground among all people on both sides of the political spectrum and she works to solve problems collectively. Locally, especially at the county level, elected officials need to be able to get along with each other and put working class citizens above political pivoting and spin. Too many people are hurting, not knowing if they’ll have a job next month – or the month after. Over time, that stress can erode into the fabric of the family and cause added heartache.
*Why the run for County Commissioner?*
Veleria Levy believes much more could and should be done for Rowan County and the hard working people who call it home.
Opportunities have been lost to maximize business development and the effort to create jobs can be better. Levy is a leader and she has proven she can handle responsibility.
Levy is a champion for the working class and those living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet.
Levy is the only Democrat running for Rowan County Commissioner. The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
