SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) main Democratic rival blocked the longtime incumbent from gaining the California Democratic Party’s coveted endorsement in her high-profile reelection race.

State Senate leader Kevin de León (D), who’s mounted a campaign running to the left of Feinstein, garnered 54 percent of delegates’ votes at the state party’s annual convention in San Diego. But he ultimately fell short of the 60 percent needed to win the endorsement.

Feinstein, meanwhile, came in much farther behind, at just 37 percent. Another Democratic Senate candidate, Pat Harris, got 5 percent of the vote, while 3 percent voted for no endorsement.
