Trump’s border wall would stop less than half of illegal immigration in the U.S. – CBS News

My opinion:

Over the past year I’ve read many articles spouting the illegal immigration numbers.  On the right, some say as many as 2.5 million enter into the U.S. by various means.  On the left, they say it’s more like 2,500.  I don’t believe either.

But, $5B for a wall that has already proven successful in Tuscon, El Paso, San Diego and other border cities makes a compelling argument – even if that argument points to less than a 50% reduction.

Why? Forget the homeland security issues – historically, nations fall when they cannot protect their economic advantages.  That includes the ability to be able to successfully keep out those who feed on resources.

Not only can we not be the police state for the world, neither can we pretend that illegal immigration isn’t a problem or significantly hurtful to the economy.

Politics is so polarized that average Americans who only watch the six thirty news on occasion, can’t ascertain which politician is making sense and which are not.

To air on the side of caution would at least be a step in the right direction.

Remember that it wasn’t all that long ago when both Democrats and Republicans not only campaigned on the notion of promoting a tougher stance on illegal immigration, but in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s – they took action according to the needs of the day.

Partly successful in legislation, regardless – the issue has changed.

One important thing has changed: the once fair minded media conglomerates have joined the conversation.  Talking heads have an agenda on cable news.  Which means that they pick facts to support their version of what needs to be done.

There was a time –  a time I remember – when news did not opionate.
