Here’s your quick one minute raw take:

Jurors are off today as lawyers submit jury instructions and make objections. Johnny will probably take the stand again mid week for rebuttal.
As I’ve said before on multiple podcasts, when you go to court you don’t get justice, you get the law.
As good as it looks for Johnny, this defamation case has always been an uphill battle for him. Both him and his ex-wife are considered public figures and that changes things considerably.
Even though Johnny has several jurors on his side the instructions they get at the end of closing arguments will determine whether or not they can adjudicate in his favor. And, if so then how much?
So it may not be a factor that Amber blatantly lied multiple times on the witness stand. It may not be a factor that the jury knows she had multiple affairs with multiple men while living in the penthouse Johnny pay for.
What it very well may come down to is does the jury believe Johnny was the subject of the Washington Post OP/ED written (I can’t believe she can write that well) by Amber Heard and did Johnny lose money and jobs because of it.
I’ve come back to the bigger issues of this trial later. What does this do regarding #metoo? Are we suppose to believe ‘all’ women except Amber? Is it possible that a woman (any woman) would get up in open court and lie to get their way?
How has the mainstream media reacted? Well, I can answer that quickly now. A quick Google search in Entertainment points to the fact that every article on the front page of Google (New York Times, Washington Post, Vice, Vouge, and Vanity Fair) all had negative articles about Johnny. It’s as if they are watching an entirely different trial.
Much of social media supports Johnny Depp. As do I. Collectively this is why that at this point I think the jurors will be hung.
Perhaps the real story is how hard a man has to prove abuse by a woman–be it mental or physical. I’ve spent enough of my time in courtrooms covering trials to know this is absolutely an issue.
