U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield says he’s committed to addressing electric rate concerns voiced by Wilson and other municipal leaders in the ElectriCities service area.
Butterfield, D-Wilson, met with Mayor Bruce Rose and City Manager Grant Goings during a recent trip to Washington, D.C. City leaders annually travel to the nation’s capital each year as part of their federal lobbying efforts.
“While meeting with Congressman Butterfield, I expressed the city’s concern over electric rates and the impact the rates (are) having on our residents,” Goings said. “I asked him if there was anything he could do to help with the ElectriCities debt that is driving up our cost. He seemed very interested in the topic and committed to take a serious look into the matter.”

As of last week, Ken Raber has our physical address and phone number. We are waiting for him to compile the information and send it to us. If we don’t get the information by April 22, we will ask NCEMPA again. I don’t think NCEMPA really wants us to ask again. Some have called for Utility Commission Regulation and some have even asked for Roy Cooper’s office to get involved regarding legal action by the State Attorney General.
It cannot possibly take that long to compile the answers to those questions. We have a right to the information. They have spent money on SB46. They have spent money on lawyers and settlements. They have spent money on more DC lobbyists. We do need the Utilities Commission and the Attorney General to investigate the malfeasance.
There are controversies in High Point where the Chairman of Electricities is the city manager. He is doing things in the shadow with annexation and eminent domain issues. http://www.talkingaboutpolitics.com
