NC NAACP Calls Tom Fetzer Flier Distorting and Misleading

NAACP

Dear George,
Last week, the North Carolina State Republican Party sent out a vicious attack piece criticizing the recently enacted Racial Justice Act, which was passed to prevent racial discrimination in our state’s justice system.
The mailer misleadingly claimed that the legislation would allow parole to death row inmates, even suggesting a killer may move next door. The piece also attacked State House Majority Leader Hugh Holliman, whose daughter was a murder victim in 1985.
Civic engagement and voting are integral to the democratic process, and tactics that discourage voter turnout have no place in our political forum. Stand with the North Carolina NAACP by sending State Republican Party Chairman Thomas Fetzer an email to repudiate the mailer:

Distorting a bill that was passed to fight racial discrimination is not only dishonest — it’s unjust. Honest political debate is one thing, but deliberate dishonesty is another.
I have already called on State Republican Party Chairman Fetzer to repudiate the mailer and issue an apology, but now I need you to stand with me in moving our state and our country forward.
Let Chairman Fetzer know his actions are unacceptable. Ask him to renounce and repudiate the mailer and to pledge not to use fear-mongering tactics based on race.
It’s time to motivate voter turnout by playing to people’s hopes, not their fears.
It’s going to take a collective effort to maintain civility in our political debate. Let’s take a stand together for honesty and civility in our political discourse.
Thank you for your support,
Rev. William J. Barber II
President, North Carolina NAACP
